International Development Agency
An investigative study on behalf of an international development agency on the potential to deploy wireless broadband technologies in a rapidly developing south east asian country. Specific areas for investigation were the examination of the country’s alternative fixed and wireless technology options from the standpoint of cost, speed of deployment, quality of service etc. as well as unique country specific factors such as weather conditions, topology, public backbone services etc.

Rural wireless broadband operator
Multiple studies designed to support the requirement for extremely low cost deployment of wireless broadband voice and data services in a rural environment facing extreme challenges of geographic topology including forests and stretches of open water. Work conducted includes detailed radio planning and propagation analysis in theory and in practice for 802.11-based outdoor access network involving multiple, overlapping sites over land and open water. Evaluating VoIP solutions based on SIP with simple QoS in the routed network up to and including live trial. Evaluating 802.11 vendors offerings for optimal outdoor performance.

South East Asian wireless broadband operator

Provided business planning support to raise capital for the initial network roll-out of a wireless broadband network in major city areas including basic network architecture and network design supported by a full cost analysis based on identified target customer segments and roll-out objectives. Evaluation of WiMAX vendors including management of the tender process with special attention on meeting unique local conditions with a focus on both short term LOS or near LOS and longer term NLOS operation. Evaluation of radio planning tools especially for the NLOS and current work includes creating service level agreements for major business customers.

World leading wireless solutions company
Designed and created the company’s first solution for the rural segment using wireless broadband access technologies to support voice and internet access. This included system and technology expertise on available technologies (WLAN, WiMAX, UMTS TDD and 2G/3G) combined with business and cost understanding i.e. solution system design matching to the business case/opportunity. The solution also integrated the company’s existing nodes into the solution including voice servers and content/applications.
Supported the vendor’s market entry with customer presentations and proposal support to municipal and government and operator customers. This lead to the vendor’s first global order for a city network WiMAX solution and installation. Market entry was also supported by a tailor-made training program for account managers and lead technical support staff to enable them to address and target prospective customers.

European capital city government body
Provided a detailed study for the city government body responsible for a european capital and its surrounding region. This included the delivery of a fixed mobile convergent network architecture using fixed and wireless broadband technologies for public sector and community usage. The system solution proposed as part of the study enables a smooth cost effective integration of WiMAX and other wireless ( including cellular) technologies into the existing infrastructure as well as into existing service networks (national and regional) based on a long term architecture model.

On-train network operator
Supported this player by defining a system solution around their core Wi-Fi access service offering. This involved defining appropriate backhaul technologies, identifying and negotiating with service providers, content providers, and system integrators to create a solution capable of meeting the full market requirement.

Wireless broadband service provider start-up
Service concept and design, business model exploration, and underlying vendor investigation for a start-up examining how innovative wireless broadband and cellular technologies can be combined to create a unique service proposal in campus environments. This has evolved in its second phase to support the licence application and operator negotiations for an MVNO targeting a specific vertical market segment.

Mobile content service provider
Providing a complete support service to enable this multinational organisation to launch a mobile content and marketing promotion service that integrates into their current website and multi-channel delivery model. Work to date has included partner selection, negotiation, and contract completion, site design to mock-up and internal trial status, and on-going project support for future internal trial and launch this year.

Enterprise network integrator
Assisting this new entrant in terms of defining a high level solution for its vertical sector, providing and sourcing competence and expertise to support early service deployment and defining a high level solution with standard components to meet the needs of its target customers.

Advanced network study
Examination of commercial standards and directions with provision of leading European technology innovators, in the field of ad-hoc meshed networking for a highly advanced network seeking to match long term performance objectives with short term delivery targets.
